Conor McGregor has certainly caught the wrath of many UFC fighters during his time, but on the weekend the Irishman copped a serve from his opponent's wife.

McGregor went down at the end of the first round against heated rival Dustin Poirier during their bout at UFC 264 with a broken ankle, sitting up against the octagon as the fight was ended.

The feud between the two rivals became ugly before the fight as McGregor dragged Poirier's wife, Jolie, into the trash talk and also said the American would be leaving the octagon on a stretcher.

But it was Poirier who was standing when he was announced the winner as McGregor was mouthing off from the floor.

Poirier mocked McGregor as the pair still traded barbs as commentator Joe Rogan interviewed the American.

Rogan, who was heavily criticised for the decision, interviewed McGregor as he lay in pain and doctors attended his ankle.

McGregor, in bad taste, again took a dig at Poirer's wife during his interview.

But fans noticed Jolie Poirier walk past the Irishman and stick her middle finger up at him.

This prompted plenty of reaction from the UFC world.

McGregor copped backlash from the UFC world after the fight, considering his brazen trash talk had come back to bite him.

Conor McGregor responds after surgery

McGregor went straight into surgery after his ankle snap and sent a message to his fans following the operation.

"Everything went to plan," McGregor said.

"Everything went perfect. I'm feeling tremendous. We've got six weeks on a crutch now, and then we begin to build back."

McGregor then offered his thoughts on the fight and what he thought would have happened.

"It was a hell of a first round. It would have been nice to get back into that second round," he added.

"It is what it is. That's the nature of the business. A clean break of the tibia, and it was not to be.

"Dustin, you can celebrate that illegitimate win all you want, but you'd done nothing in there. That second round would have shown all."

UFC president Dana White said the pair would most likely face each other again down road after McGregor recovers.

Poirier also said the feud wasn't over and he wanted to see McGregor again in the octagon.
