Joe Root causes a stir with cocky century celebration
Joe Root celebrated his classy ODI century by dropping his bat to the ground in true ‘mic drop’ fashion.
The England batsman needed just one run to win the match against India, and four runs to bring up his century, so he opted for the latter and celebrated appropriately.
The bat drop caused a stir for cricket fans around the world, and they reacted to Root’s funny gesture.

Quiet, calm and composed, Joe Root gives it back to the critics after back-to-back centuries. In a best possible way, he suggests for a mic drop. Hilarious! No exaggeration whatsoever. 😉 #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/aJ04UNBkHj

Haha, England need 1 to win but Joe Root needs 4 for his century. Of course he gets it!! And then celebrates with a Kobe Bryant ‘mic drop’ except he drops his bat instead. 👍

Root’s impressive century lifted England to a 2-1 series victory over India, and he became England’s leading one-day international century-maker.
This was Root’s second unbeaten century in successive innings after his 113 not out helped England level the three-match contest with an 86-run win at Lord’s.
“It feels fantastic,” Root told Sky Sports.
“To come into a big series like this and perform how we have as a side is great.”
