Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick reportedly dropped by agency amid holdout
NEW YORK — Another layer in the Haason Reddick holdout found its way into the news on Thursday night.
Reddick’s agent at Creative Artists Agency have parted ways with the edge rusher amid a contract holdout from the Jets dating back to the spring, according to ESPN.
In March, the Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Eagles, hoping he could improve the team’s pass rush after they lost Bryce Huff to Philadelphia in free agency. Reddick’s 50.5 sacks from 2020-23 was fourth during that span.
The two-time Pro Bowler is in the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed in 2022. The Jets traded for Reddick without a contract in place in good faith, hoping the two sides could negotiate a contract once he arrived and integrated with the organization.
The Jets did offer Reddick a contract extension, according to sources, which would have been a raise from the $14.25 million he was scheduled to receive in 2024. But the 30-year-old declined the offer.
Instead of showing up for the Jets spring program, Reddick stayed away, hoping that the Jets had a change of heart and gave him the contract he sought. But that hasn’t happened to this point.
The Jets told Reddick, they would not negotiate a new contract with any player unless he showed up to their facility in Florham Park, according to sources.
Because he didn’t receive a new contract, Reddick missed mandatory minicamp and decided not to attend Jets training camp in July. He then requested a trade a month later, but Jets general manager Joe Douglas denied his request.
With Reddick’s holdout heading into Week 6, he has forfeited over $5 million in NFL-mandated fines and lost more than $4 million in-game checks.
With no end in sight, Jets owner Woody Johnson recently pleaded with Reddick to show up.
“I hope that the young man can come to the team, we would like to have Haason here, we welcome him with open arms,” Johnson said on Tuesday to the media. “When he gets here he will find a very welcome locker room and he will be able to fit right in, but he has got to get here first.
“So Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95 and come to the New York Jets. We can meet you and give you an escort right in the building and you will fit right in and you are going to love it here and you are going to feel welcome and you are going to accomplish great things with us.”
