Jersey's only summer and winter Olympian dies
The only Jersey athlete to compete at the summer and winter Olympics has died aged 78.
Colin Campbell died on 23 December.
He raced at the 1968 and 1972 summer games in athletics, and became the first Brit to also compete in a winter event in the bobsleigh in 1976.
In a statement, Sport Jersey said it was "deeply saddened".
'A true icon'
It said: "Colin was not only a remarkable athlete but also an incredible ambassador for our island.
"It was a privilege to induct him into the Jersey Sport Hall of Fame in 2018 for his extraordinary feat of competing in both the summer and winter Olympics as well as the Commonwealth Games."
Between 1964 and 1974 he broke national records at 400m, 800m and 4 x 400m, the organisation added.
His 46-year 1,500m island record was eventually broken in 2018.
Campbell also helped to found the Spartan Athletic Club back in 1979.
Sport Jersey described him as "a true icon in Jersey's sporting history".
