Jason Day hit with ban at Masters after golf officials take exception to Aussie's outfit
The Aussie's outfit was causing waves during the Masters.
Aussie golfer Jason Day has admitted Augusta National officials told him to remove his vest during round two of the Masters after fans pointed out its loud design. Day caught the attention of many in the golf world at the Masters when his baggy pants became a meme on social media after day one.
And while the Aussie was playing solid golf at the major - won by Scottie Scheffler - it was his outfits that were stealing the attention. And it was his vest during round three that sent fans into meltdown. The Aussie was walking around the prestigious golf course in a 'Malbon Golf Championship' vest. The loud clothing item goes against the tradition to wear plain vests and sweaters.
And it caused division on social media. Most agreed the decision to wear the sweater was bizarre with some describing it as one of the 'worst' outfits seen on tour. And Day revealed after play that officials had told him to take off the vest.
Day also admitted there was no push back from his end. "They asked me to take the vest off. Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament,” Day said to reporters. “That’s what we’re here to do is try and play and win the green jacket.” Day reiterated he had no issues removing the vest.
“They said: ‘Can you take it off?’ I said: ‘Yeah, no worries,’” Day added. He then claimed the request come from tournament officials. “It came from Augusta National. I don’t know if it was a green jacket. I don’t know who it was. They asked and I respectfully took it off," he said.
Golf fans laugh off Jason Day vest drama
Day finished hit a brilliant -3 in round four. Unfortunately, the Aussie finished +5 overall in tied 30th after a number of tough days at Augusta. While Day played some good golf, his outfit was making headlines. And fans around the world couldn't get enough of the sideshow at the Masters.

Jason day commits to Paris Olympics
Day admitted his game continued to get better throughout the tournament, which started off in challenging conditions for all golfers. "It felt a little bit different today. I was just saying that I was making some continuation of swing changes on top of playing in a major championship with Tiger Woods and in 40-mile-an-hour breeze at the start of the week," he said.

"It can be very difficult to try and make those changes." Day didn't play in the Rio Olympics having opted out while he was World No.1. However, Day said this time around would be different and he is keen to take part. "I'll play. If I'm in, I'll play for sure, yeah. I'm looking forward to it," Day said after his finish at Augusta.
"I think I made a bit of a mistake not going down to Rio, even though part of it was family-related. I kind of missed out on that, and I probably should have gone. But if I get the opportunity, I'm looking forward to going."
