Distressing scenes as race continues around unconscious female jockey

A horse race in Japan continued around a stricken female jockey after she was left lying in the middle of the track.

The incident unfolded in race 10 at a meet in Nagoya on Friday.

Running in third place, Aoi Kinomae was dumped by Lazward on the first straight after an apparent trip by another horse.

The horse continued racing, and so did the race itself as officials shamefully chose not to call a stoppage in order to help the jockey.

Jockeys swerved to avoid Kinomae, now aided by two people who had joined the track.

While one left to get out of the way the other attempted to point jockeys in other directions.

Her own horse Lazward was still running and came the closest to colliding with the helper.

The injured jockey was helpless from being stomped on the head by any one of the horses.

Remarkably, the race concluded and the result reportedly stood.

A third person could be seen entering the track immediately after the finish.

Kinomae was taken to hospital and an update suggests she sustained no fractures and responded well in what has to be considered a miracle escape.
