James Tedesco cops fresh Origin blow in massive NRL development around Dylan Edwards

James Tedesco looks increasingly likely to be axed from the NSW State of Origin team twice in the space of three weeks, with Dylan Edwards named to return for the Panthers this weekend. Edwards was originally picked by Michael Maguire for Origin I, but a quad injury suffered at training saw Tedesco given a reprieve.

Tedesco, who was sensationally axed as NSW fullback and captain until Edwards went down injured, produced a mixed bag in Origin I and didn't really fire for the Blues. His only hope of retaining the No.1 jersey appeared to be if Edwards couldn't overcome his quad issue before Origin II, but the fullback will turn out for the Panthers against the Knights on Sunday.

After the Blues were thrashed in Game I, Maguire will undoubtedly be keen to get Edwards back in his side, and he would only need to get through the Knights game unscathed in order to be picked. It would result in Tedesco being dumped from the Blues team for a second time in just three weeks.

As well as Edwards' return, Maguire and the Blues were also boosted by some other good news when NRL teams were announced on Tuesday. Cameron Murray, who wasn't available for Origin I due to injury, has been named on the bench for Souths and appears a big chance to win his NSW jersey back.

Haumole Olakau'atu was also named by Manly despite suffering a calf injury last weekend, while Liam Martin was included in the reserves for the Panthers after suffering ligament damage in his foot in Origin I. Even if Martin can't play against the Knights on Sunday, Maguire would seemingly be keen to pick him for Origin II if he's available.

Bradman Best will also make his return for the Knights in a timely boost for Maguire. The Blues need to find a new centre after Joseph Suaalii was hit with a four-game ban for his hit on Reece Walsh in Origin I, and Best was brilliant on debut for NSW in Game III last year. Best is seemingly in a battle with Latrell Mitchell and Jesse Ramien to win the NSW spot.

Nicho Hynes in good spirits amid State of Origin backlash

Meanwhile, Nicho Hynes will return for the Sharks against the Dolphins on Thursday night after he was rested last weekend. Hynes is facing the axe for State of Origin II after an underwhelming display in Game I, with many predicting Mitchell Moses will come back in at halfback for the Blues.

Maguire was reportedly keen to pick Moses for Game I, but the Parramatta half couldn't get back from a foot injury in time. Moses has played two games since returning and appears to be in line to unseat Hynes.

But the Cronulla player has a chance to impress Maguire against the Dolphins, while Moses and the Eels will come up against the Roosters. Sharks hooker Blake Brailey said Hynes was in good spirits despite copping plenty of criticism after the Blues' loss in Game I.

"He's been good. He rocked up today with a smile on his face," Brailey said on Tuesday. "He's joking, playing pranks. That's what he normally does around the club. We didn't hear anything different from him.

"He's happy to be here, still loving his footy ... trained great today. It's not great to see (the fallout from Origin) for such a close friend, (but) he's been such a great player for so long. He's deserved that spot. He's a competitor, so I'm guessing that'll drive him or motivate him."
