Maloney officially unveiled by Panthers

Kangaroos halfback James Maloney has been unveiled by the Penrith Panthers to officially swap places with Cronulla Sharks recruit Matt Moylan.

Maloney was contracted to the Sharks for 2018 but sought a release after failing to secure a contract extension and upgrade.

He has signed a three-year deal with Penrith.

Moylan fell out with the Panthers throughout the 2017 season and gained a move away from the mountains, allowing Maloney to fill the gap.

"(Penrith) have the roster and the resources to achieve success over the coming years and I’m really excited to now be part of that," the 31-year-old said.

"The squad has a strong forward pack for me to play behind, plus some young and talented players coming through in the outside backs."

Maloney will form an experience-youth halves partnership with Nathan Cleary, the son of his former New Zealand Warriors coach Ivan.

"I've actually known Nathan for a long time because he was my ballboy at the Warriors," Maloney said.

"I'm looking forward to playing alongside him and hopefully helping him take his game to the next level."

Maloney will have a holiday following the conclusion of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup before linking up with the Panthers for pre-season training in January.
