Jack Ginnivan goes public with new girlfriend as AFL players and partners shine at Brownlow Medal
Some of the biggest names in the AFL dazzled on the red carpet.
Jack Ginnivan didn't manage to complete a fairytale season with Hawthorn on the field in 2024, but it appears as though the young gun has found happiness off it. Ginnivan went public with new girlfriend Lily Mitchell at the Brownlow Medal on Monday night, with the young couple dazzling on the red carpet.
Ginnivan and Mitchell looked very smitten as they walked the red carpet before the prestigious event, with Mitchell stealing the spotlight with a jaw-dropping bronze gown. Ginnivan looked very dapper in a white suit jacket and black pants, but AFL fans were clamouring to find out more about his new girlfriend.
Monday night's ceremony was the couple's first public appearance together, continuing a brilliant year for Ginnivan. The young forward helped the Hawks turn around their 0-5 start to the season to make the second week of the finals, where their season was ended by Port Adelaide.
Jack Ginnivan's tumultuous end to AFL season with Hawthorn
Ginnivan found himself at the centre of controversy when his cocky suggestions that Hawthorn would meet Sydney in the preliminary final blew up in his face, sparking a public sledge from Port coach Ken Hinkley on the field after the Power's win. But Ginnivan was all smiles on Monday night as he looked to put the saga behind him.
“Upon reflection, probably not the smartest idea,” he told Channel 7 regarding his social media comment. “But the leaders and the coach had my full support and they backed me in. I’ve just got to grow up I guess and be a bit smarter.”
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell previously said about Ginnivan's admission: “I thought the fact that he put that out there, he’s 21 years old, and if you think about the amount of things that he has had in his life up to this point, some of them he has brought onto himself but a lot of it has just been public interest for who knows what reason.
“I think he has had an enormous amount of focus for someone so young, and the fact that he recognises now that it is time for him to grow up, I think, hats off to him. It’s not going to be perfect, I don’t think he’s going to be sound, I’m sure at some point that (statement) will be played back in my face or his face and said, ‘oh I thought you were trying to grow up Jack’, because it’s not perfect.
“I think all of us that go from realising that there is some growing up to do to actually doing it, I think there is going to be some teething issues. But I’m glad that he has recognised that that is something that he needs to do.”

Ginnivan and girlfriend Mitchell were among the many who dazzled on the red carpet on Monday night. Annalise Dalins, the new fiancée of Collingwood star Josh Daicos, led the looks in a gown by Oglia-Loro Couture.
Former Collingwood coach and 2003 Brownlow medallist Nathan Buckley attended with girlfriend Brodie Ryan for the second year running. Brodie opted for a satin blush pink number that flared into a skirt, paired with a triple-strand of pearls and a side-swept hairstyle.
While Triple J host Dee Salmin opted for a different approach, wearing an ensemble that initially cost her just $20 on re-sale website Etsy. Ms Salmin, the partner of Collingwood captain Darcy Moore, turned her year 12 formal dress from 2011 into a skirt for her second Brownlow.
Patrick Cripps won his second Brownlow with a record haul of 45 votes. Nick Daicos finished runner-up with 38 - a tally that also would have broken the previous record of 36 held jointly by Dustin Martin (2017) and Ollie Wines (2021).
