The NFL Has Decided To Remove "End Racism" From The Super Bowl End Zones, And People Are Absolutely Not Letting It Slide
The NFL is officially removing the phrase "End Racism" from the Super Bowl LIX endzones and replacing it with "Choose Love."
This will reportedly be the first time since 2021 that "End Racism" will not be stenciled on the Super Bowl end zone.
The NFL says their decision to change "End Racism" to "Choose Love" is an acknowledgment of recent tragedies that have taken place in America. "The Super Bowl is often a snapshot in time, and the NFL is in a unique position to capture and lift the imagination of the country," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement.
"'Choose Love' is appropriate to use as our country has endured in recent weeks wildfires in southern California, the terrorist attack here in New Orleans, the plane and helicopter crash near our nation’s capital and the plane crash in Philadelphia," he continued.
Well, the NFL's field change was announced the same day that President Donald Trump was reported to attend this year's game, which will make him the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl.
And the internet has a lot to say about it:
"During black history month. LOL," this user wrote.
Another user felt that the NFL's decision to remove "End racism" was made specifically to appease Donald Trump: "The Fact That The NFL Would Think Removing 'End Racism' Slogan In The End Zones. Would Offend A Sitting President. Tells U All U Need To Know!!! (About The Person In The WH)."
"The NFL, a league made of 53% black players who are asked to put their bodies through immense stress and injury for the entertainment of millions, is removing 'End Racism' from the end zones of the Super Bowl to make a White supremacist and convicted felon feel more welcome," this user agreed.
"I’m not surprised. You realize how performative people are," this user wrote. "And it shouldn’t even be performative when it comes to things like ENDING RACISM. It should be the standard."
