'Shot of the season': Cricket world erupts over 'jaw-dropping' act

Pat Cummins may be regarded as one of the finest bowlers in the world but the Aussie quick found himself on the wrong end of an astonishing moment in the Indian Premier League.

The fast bowler's Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a 10-run loss to reigning champions the Mumbai Indians thanks largely to an incredible knock from Suryakumar Yadav.

Yadav top scored for Mumbai after belting 56 off 36 balls to help his side set a total of 152 that proved enough for the champions.

However, it was the batsman's ridiculous six off the bowling of Cummins that had the cricket world talking.

Cummins is used to instilling terror in batsmen around the world but Yadav made a mockery of the Aussie quick's fearsome reputation with a moment of sheer audacity in his second over at the crease.

The Mumbai batsman seemingly had one thing on his mind as he walked across the pitch and whipped the ball from Cummins towards the square leg boundary in a premeditated piece of wizardry.

Incredibly, the massive six hit the roof in the stands after travelling a staggering 99 metres, leaving fans, commentators and even his teammates in disbelief.

Kolkata were well-placed at 4-122 at the end of 15th over to overhaul their 153-run target before Mumbai roared back through their spinners and pacemen to restrict Kolkata at 7-142.

Left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya gave away only four runs off his last two overs before New Zealander Trent Boult chipped in with two wickets off the final six balls which went for only four runs.

"It was a great fightback considering where the game was while they were batting," Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma said.

Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Andre Russell's maiden five-wicket haul in Twenty20 - an excellent 5-15 - helped bowl out the champions for 152.

Yadav (56) and captain Sharma (43) added 76 for the second-wicket stand but Yadav's dismissal in the 11th over saw Mumbai struggle for runs in the latter half of the innings.

Bangladesh's seasoned spinner Shakib Al Hasan ended Yadav's 36-ball knock as the batsman skied a catch to long on after hitting seven fours and two sixes.

Australian paceman Cummins had Sharma cleaned bowled off a slower delivery in the 16th over before Russell picked up all his five wickets off a short two-over spell.

Russell picked up two wickets in his first over when he had Kieron Pollard caught behind off a thick outside edge and Marco Jansen was caught at deep cover.

The West Indies allrounder then bowled an impressive last over and picked up the wickets of tailenders with short pitch deliveries as Mumbai fielders held onto their catches in the outfield.

Nitish Rana (57) and Shubman Gill (33) provided Kolkata with a solid start of 72 off 53 balls before Chahar's introduction in the ninth over gave Mumbai a sniff.

Chahar claimed four wickets, one in each of his four overs, with Rana getting stumped after scoring his second successive half-century off the legspinner's final delivery.

Russell was twice let off the hook in his struggling knock of nine off 15 balls before Boult sealed the game by having the West Indian allrounder caught off his own bowling in the final over.

"A lot of the time we played good cricket, certainly the first half and a majority of the chase," Kolkata captain Eoin Morgan said.

"We made mistakes, hopefully we can iron them out."
