'Horrible' act of poor sportsmanship shocks football world
A female footballer’s shocking act of poor sportsmanship has left fans and commentators stunned.
The strange moment occurred in the women’s AFC football championships when Uzbekistan took on the Maldives.
Uzbekistan went on to win 20-0, which makes this poor sportsmanship even worse.
With the score at 2-0 early in the game, Maldives keeper Ula Binth made a relatively easy save before she crumpled to the ground in pain.
The extent of her injury wasn’t immediately clear, but she left the ball on the turf next to her as she hit the deck.
But rather than kick the ball out and stop play (as is customary when an opponent is injured), Uzbeki captain Loayla Shodieva decided to swoop in and take advantage.
Shodieva took possession of the ball, dribbled around Binth and slotted the easy goal, all while her opponent was lying on the ground in pain.
She didn’t even seem to realise the extent of her actions as she celebrated the goal.
Binth was treated by medical staff for five minutes before play got underway again.
Aussie football commentator Brenton Speed got wind of the incident, and wasn’t particularly happy.
“This’ll win the anti-sportspersonship award,” he tweeted.

That was followed up by a reply from former A-League player Erik Paartalu labelling it ‘horrible’.

And they weren’t the only ones.
By the Captain, too.

The Maldives conceded 36 shots on goal without managing one of their own.
