It's hard to say who was responsible for the bigger eruption on Tuesday; Ja Morant's 52-point NBA circus against the Spurs, or the fans at watching along in pure awe.

Morant delivered one of the most memorable performances of the season in the Memphis Grizzlies' 118-105 win over San Antonio on Tuesday.

Already with a well-earned reputation as a walking highlight reel, Morant took things to another level in what can only be described as one of the most absurdly impressive games in recent memory.

The 22-year-old had a variety of highlight plays throughout the game, but two standout buckets in as many minutes to close out the first half had the NBA world in disbelief.

The first of his two spectacular plays came as he caught an outlet pass at half-court, rocketing past the Spurs' perimeter defence to throw down a wildly impressive dunk on 213cm big man Jakob Poeltl.

Morant took off from well outside the restricted area and somehow still seemed to be elevating over Poeltl when he threw the dunk down.

NBA fans were still dizzy two minutes later when Morant combined with Kiwi centre Steven Adams to put home an unlikely buzzer-beater to end the second half.

Inbounding the ball under their own basket with just seconds to go, Adams uncorked a beauty of a full-court pass to Morant in the opposite corner, who managed the dob the ball through the net with less than one second to go before half time.

The good times kept rolling for Memphis after half time, with Morant eventually subbed out of the game to a standing ovation from the Grizzlies crowd, after scoring a career-high 52 points.

His teammates celebrated the personal milestone with him on court after the game, while many NBA fans were still in awe at Morant's incredible display.

A full 29 of Morant’s 52 points came in the first half, which he capped with the aforementioned wild bucket at the buzzer.

That sequence is one that Morant and Adams likely can’t recreate in a game again if they tried.

“[Adams] looked at me and just told me to run. I just started early,” Morant said on Bally Sports.

“I just told him to try to put it as close to the rim as he can. He delivered the pass, and I put everything into the shot and it went in.”

Morant also touched on his monster dunk over Poeltl, joking that he was glad to finally see one of his more explosive efforts go down after several similarly insane attempts caromed off the rim or otherwise missed in previous years.

“I had to go finish with authority,” Morant said.

“Finished the play finally for everybody who saying, ‘Almost.’ That goes one for y’all right there, man.”

He also drilled a 3-pointer from the arena logo in the first quarter, and looked like he didn’t break a sweat doing it.

Morant finished with seven rebounds and two assists to go with his 52 points, and shot 22-of-30 from the field. He was a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the arc.

De’Anthony Melton and Tyus Jones were the only other Grizzlies players to score in double figures, as they dropped 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Grizzlies have now won two of their last three games coming off of the All-Star break, and currently sit in third in the Western Conference standings.

Morant had dropped a career-high 46 points against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. He’s averaging 27.1 points and 6.7 assists per game so far this season.
