Hibs buy Gambia midfielder Manneh

Hibernian have signed Gambia midfielder Alasana Manneh from Danish second-tier leaders Odense Boldklub for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old graduate of Barcelona's academy becomes the Scottish Premiership club's first signing of the January transfer window on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Hibs had targeted Manneh as he was due to be out of contract this summer and were able to come to an agreement with Odense that allows him to join the Leith outfit immediately subject to international clearance.

Head coach David Gray told his club website: "He's very competitive, has a fantastic work ethic and has good technical ability on the ball.

"At 26, he has good experience at senior level and playing in high-level leagues - and he adds extra strength in depth to the middle of our midfield."

Manneh spent time on loan from Barcelona B to Spanish club Sabadell and Etar in the Bulgarian top flight before a permanent move to Gornik Zabrze in 2019.

Following three years in the Ekstraklasa, he switched to the Danish top flight but found himself relegated with OB last term.

Manneh, who has 18 international caps, has made 18 appearances this season, supplying seven assists as he helped his side lead the Danish second tier by eight points.

Hibs sporting director Malky Mackay stressed that they had been determined to "add quality and not quantity" to their first team during January.
