'New Aussie star': Hannah Green claims incredible win on LPGA Tour

Australian major champion Hannah Green has stormed home to claim her second LPGA Tour victory, winning the Portland Classic in a thrilling final-group shootout.

Green, 22, went into the final round three shots behind American teenager Yealimi Noh but shot a five-under 67 to finish with a 21-under-par total and beat the Monday qualifier by one shot.

The winner of the Women's PGA Championship in June, Green drew level with Noh when she holed a lengthy, curling putt at the 17th hole and she closed it out with a two-metre par putt at the last as Noh made bogey.

Green had to overcome a big stumble in the third round when she shot 73 to squander a five-shot lead she had built after opening the tournament with rounds of 64 and 63.

She did so by making six birdies in the final round as she turned the heat on the rookie leader to claim the $US195,000 ($A290,000) winner's cheque.

“I just really needed to stay positive," Green said.

"I probably was in my own head yesterday and it showed."

Green climbing rankings

In her second year on the tour, Green went into the tournament ranked world No.26

But she is set to climb even further when the rankings are updated on Monday.
