'Half of it missing': Gruesome eye injury floors All Black

A gruesome photo has emerged of the horrific eye injury that’s ruled All Blacks prop Joe Moody out of the rest of his side’s European tour.

The 30 year-old loosehead prop suffered the shocking mishap during a training session with the world champions.

Moody was taking part in a lineout drill when he accidentally copped a teammate’s hand to the face, which subsequently split his eyelid.

New Zealand’s coaches immediately came to Moody’s aid, before he was sent to a plastic surgeon, where he required three layers of stitching.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen provided a grim description of the freak accident to reporters.

“Joe Moody has found a way to get himself injured this year in unusual fashion,” Hansen said.

“It was a lineout lift and he copped someone’s hand. Anyone else and it would have probably missed.

“As our doctor described it, your eyelid is your window washer. So if you have got half of it missing, you can’t wipe your eye and it could affect your eyesight long term. We need to make sure he is OK.”

Moody’s omission means Karl Tu’inukuafe is in line to start for the All Blacks in their upcoming Test match against England at Twickenham.
