Guernsey's men's cricket team were amongst the winners at the Guernsey Sports Commission's awards for 2024.

The island side won their T20 World Cup qualifying tournament to progress to the final round of qualification for next year's event in India and Sri Lanka.

It earned them the Team Trophy for sides with four or more competitors.

"It was quite a big win last summer, but any award you're given is a positive," Guernsey captain Ollie Nightingale told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"There was strong competition and some strong teams that didn't even get shortlisted, so we're really pleased to have won it.

"It's an evening to celebrate Guernsey sport rather than individual success."

Among the other winners were bowler Jason Greenslade, who took the men's outstanding individual sporting achievement after winning the World Indoor Bowls singles title.

Fellow bowler Alison Merrien took the women's version of the award for her seventh victory in the British Isles Championships.

Merrien also won the team award for sides with four or fewer competitors as she, Shirley Petit, Catherine Bonsall and Rose Ogier were honoured after their Channel Islands team won the Indoor Bowls Council Championships.

Olympic 400m hurdler Alastair Chalmers was named outstanding performer of the year after reaching the semi-finals in Paris where he fell with 150m to go.

Golfer Conor McKenna was named young sportsperson of the year after winning both the Guernsey and Channel Island men's and junior singles titles at the age of 17.
