Greg Olsen on relationship with Tom Brady: 'I don't have any personal animosity'

Greg Olsen has made it clear he wasn't happy with losing his spot as Fox's No. 1 NFL color commentator.

However, the former NFL tight end reiterated Thursday he does not hold any animosity toward his replacement, Tom Brady, as the seven-time Super Bowl winner prepares to call his first-ever NFL championship.

"I’ve talked to Tom regularly throughout the season," Olsen said in an appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "We’ve gotten to know each other really well. I have a ton of respect for him, which goes without saying, as a player. But I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him as a guy since he’s joined Fox. This whole narrative of I hate watching him call games and all that is not true."

Olsen's assertion comes just over a week after he admitted his demotion to Fox's No. 2 crew was difficult.

"It's hard to sit there and watch games that over the last couple of years you were preparing for, and you were calling," Olsen told The Athletic's Joe Person. "And then you’re sitting there on your couch and you’re watching the game, you’re almost kind of broadcasting the game in your brain. You’re saying, ‘Oh, man, what would I have said on this play? There was so much to talk about there. That would’ve been super fun to dive into.'"

Olsen's demotion came with a pay cut that dropped his salary from $10 million to $3 million, according to the New York Post. It isn't clear when the 39-year-old might be able to get another No. 1 broadcaster role, as most of the top color analysts in the business are locked into multi-year contracts. That includes Brady, who is on a massive 10-year, $375 million deal.

Still, Olsen clarified in that interview he didn't begrudge Brady for leapfrogging him on Fox's depth chart.

"I don’t think resentment’s probably accurate," Olsen told The Athletic, when asked about seeing Brady in his former role.

TOM BRADY: Fox color commentator opens up on difficulties of broadcasting transition

Olsen wants to be known that in reality, he is rooting for his coworker and former broadcast teammates to succeed.

"I like Tom. I want to see him [do well]," Olsen said on NFL Network. "I’ve tried to help him. I answer questions to the best that I can help. But I want to see him do well. I wanna see him and Kevin [Burkhardt] and [Erin Andrews] and Tom Rinaldi have a great broadcast. I don't have any personal animosity."
