A video of two golfers engaged in a screaming match during the club championship at Cranbourne Golf Course in Melbourne has left the sporting community stunned. The video posted to social media shows two men swearing at one another in a heated argument, before one steps towards the other and threatens to assault them.

Footage posted on Twitter shows the confrontation beginning with one man approaching the group in front of him, ostensibly to complain about spectators being present on the course. In response, a player wearing a red shirt erupts at the man, immediately threatening to 'knock you the f*** out'.

Both men begin screaming at each other at this point, with the red-shirted player getting right up in the face of the other man. “Come on c**t, I’ll f**king smash you. You’re a f**king idiot,” he can be heard saying, before being told to go away.

A third player then attempts to intervene, before the red-shirted player then accuses the other man of 'playing up' on his group, which sets off another round of yelling.

WARNING: Video contains heavy explicit language

The third man, who attempted to intervene earlier, was referred to as 'captain' by the older player, perhaps indicating that they hold a senior rank at the club - but their attempts to de-escalate the situation proved to be relatively ineffective.

After telling the third player that he respected him 'as captain', the older man begins to walk away but continues his tirade against the red-shirted player.

“What to smash me up do you? I am 61 years old. Come on you f**k head,” he can be heard yelling out. “That’s wrong. I’ve got to put up with that do I? F**k that. F**k that captain. Control your f**king players.”

After he continues to walk away, the older player then discusses what had happened with the rest of his playing group. “You saw him get into my face. You saw him physically threaten me,” he says.

“I am still shaking like a leaf mate. I don’t like to be physically threatened. He is a f**king beast. Who the f**k is he threatening me?

“And how come the captain doesn’t pull him up for that behaviour? That is totally wrong behaviour. F**king threatening me with violence. Going to knock me block off. F**k that idiot.”

After the other group, including the red-shirt wearing man, walk away, the first player lines up a shot, which goes awry before he flings his club at his golf bag.

Perhaps predictably, everyone involved came off looking worse for wear in the responses on social media.
