Golf will stay on CBS, after YouTube TV, Paramount reach short-term extension

After a brief scare for the roughly 8 million YouTube TV subscribers, the pay-TV streamer, and Paramount, owner of CBS among its many holdings, reached a short-term extension.

There was a deadline of 11 p.m. ET on Thursday night for all of Paramount's content to be removed from YouTube TV. That could've had a direct impact on fans of March Madness, as some NCAA men's tournament games, including the national semifinals and national championship game in 2025, are set to be carried by CBS.

For golf fans, that would've meant the third and final rounds of the Masters would be unavailable on YouTube TV. CBS Sports Network would've been lost too. That cable channel typically has re-airs of golf coverage plus other Masters-related shows during the week of.

But, crisis averted. For now.

CBS is airing this week's Genesis Invitational but then NBC takes over covering the PGA Tour until the Masters in April, which CBS will have for a 70th year.

But what does "short-term" mean? It's unclear as Paramount and YouTube haven't really said, but sports fans should breathe easy knowing if there were a CBS blackout on YouTube, all is not lost, as hi-def antennas can be had for around $25 and then you'd be watching on free TV just like in the good ol' days, before all these pay-TV disputes were a thing.
