LIV Golf boss Greg Norman has hit out at reports that claimed Tiger Woods was offered an extraordinary amount of money to join the rebel breakaway tour.

This week reports suggested Tiger Woods was set to meet with fellow PGA Tour players regarding the ongoing threat presented by the fledgling LIV Golf series.

'WHAT A GUY': Cameron Smith called out after incredible gesture for fan

According to Fire Pit Collective and ESPN, Woods will be the headliner in a player meeting on Tuesday in Wilmington, Delaware, where the second of the tour's three FedEx Cup playoffs tournaments begins on Thursday.

The Saudi-funded LIV circuit, led by CEO Norman, has pulled numerous star players away from the PGA Tour with nine-figure dollar guarantees. The LIV roster includes Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Spain's Sergio Garcia and South Africa's Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen.

Australian star Cameron Smith, currently ranked second in the world, has been heavily linked to a move to the LIV tour too, but has declined to confirm or deny the news.

However, Norman spoke to Fox Sports and clarified some information around Woods and their approach to lure him over.

“I just want to make sure for clarification here, the numbers that were thrown out were inclusive of future franchise value," Norman said.

“And so if you take a look at this number that’s being thrown out there ... the generational wealth that this franchise opportunity has for the individual players is incredible.”

Norman added: “That’s how it is. It’s not the cash value. We never offered that cash value to Tiger Woods. That’s the reality of it.”

Tiger Woods reportedly heading player meeting

Woods is not competing in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but the 15-time major champion has reportedly elected to travel to Delaware to meet fellow professionals involved in the BMW Championship.

An unnamed PGA Tour player told ESPN, "It's a meeting to get the top 20 players in the world on the same page on how we can continue to make the PGA Tour the best product in professional golf."

A PGA Tour player advisory council meeting is also scheduled for Tuesday, and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan is due to address the players separately, ESPN reported.

Fire Pit Collective wrote: "Supposedly everything is on the table, from major championship boycotts to Monahan's future to a larger compromise (with LIV)."
