Glen Taylor reportedly agrees to sell Timberwolves to Alex Rodriguez, Marc Lore group, ending ownership dispute

Alex Rodriguez is adding another title to his already impressive sports resume. In addition to being a three-time MVP and World Series champion, Rodriguez will now be a majority team owner. Rodriguez and entrepreneur Marc Lore will reportedly obtain full ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves after resolving a dispute with former team owner Glen Taylor, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

News of Lore and Rodriguez purchasing the team originally broke in 2021. The group paid $1.5 billion for the Timberwolves and the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx. It was supposed to take roughly two-and-a-half years before Lore and Rodriguez took control of the Timberwolves.

That process ran into complications in 2024, when Taylor said he was pulling out of the deal. Taylor claimed Lore and Rodriguez failed to meet a deadline in the sale agreement. Lore and Rodriguez — who already owned 40 percent of the franchise at that point — said that was not the case and accused Taylor of "seller's remorse."

A mediation session was held in May 2024, but failed to resolve the issue. A three-person arbitration panel then ruled in February 2025 that Taylor had to move forward with the deal and sell the team to Lore and Rodriguez, per the Associated Press. Taylor was reportedly considering appealing that decision.

That appeal will not happen. Taylor met with the Lore and Rodriguez group in the weeks following the arbitration decision and agreed to finalize the deal. With the threat of Taylor's appeal off the table, the NBA can move forward with the transfer process.

The deal still must be approved by the NBA Board of Governors. At least 23 of the 30 teams need to vote in favor of Lore and Rodriguez for the deal to be official.

Taylor, 83, purchased majority ownership of the Timberwolves in 1994. He paid $94 million for the team. In 2024, Forbes valued the franchise at $3.1 billion, good for 28th among the 30 NBA teams.
