Gervonta 'Tank' Davis has shown why he is arguably the new face of boxing having defeated Ryan Garcia in the battle of the undefeated fighters in Las Vegas. In front of a star-studded group at T-Mobile Arena, Davis did exactly what he said he would do and finished Garcia in the seventh round in front of legends such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Garcia came out strongly in the bout and his speed prompted Davis to only throw seven punches in the first round as he sized up his taller opponent. However, Davis continues to show why he is a must-watch puncher as he sent Garcia crashing to the floor with a straight-left in the second round.

Garcia bounced back but it changed the tune of the fight as Davis' speed and countering proved to be a worry for the younger fighter. Garcia may have been edging closer on the scorecards when entering the seventh as he tried to find his rhythm.

However, it all came to an abrupt end when Garcia found a home for his left hand once again. Covering up in an exchange, Davis weaved out of the way from a Garica hook before firing a straight left into his ribs.

Garcia backed up, but after a few steps you could tell he was in trouble and he took a knee. The referee finished his ten count with Garcia unable to stand up after the thudding left.

When asked whether he was now the face of boxing, Davis was adamant: "Abso-f**king-lutely". Davis' prediction came true and it ended in the seventh round with boxing fans going wild with Tank emerging as the champion in the mega-fight.

After the fight, Davis admitted he didn't think the body-shot would end the bout. “I didn’t think that body shot would end it, but I saw his facial expression and that’s what made me take it to him,” he says.

“It was a good shot, for sure. I thought he was going to get up but I like to play mind games, so when he was looking at me, I was looking at him trying to tell him, ‘Get up!’. And he just shook his head, no.”

Ryan Garcia humble after defeat

Following the fight, Garcia praised Davis and said he was fine after the knockdown. “I’m good,” Garcia says. “Tank is a great fighter. I take my hat off to him.

"I know we talked a lot of trash leading into the fight, but he knows what it is. It’s all love at the end of the day. I was honored to be in the ring with a great fighter and I respect him a lot. You know how the business goes. But I want to say to Tank, you’re a good man.”

Garcia said there was no excuses after his loss and said he was caught with a brutal shot.
