Genie Bouchard's romance with random fan takes bizarre twist

Now this is unexpected.

Eugenie Bouchard’s fling with John Goehrke – a random fan she started dating after he won a Twitter bet with her – is set to be made into a movie.

According to Deadline, Hollywood producer J.J. Abrams (of Armageddon and Star Wars) has signed on to oversee the film.

And Bouchard will reportedly be an executive producer.

“The film version centres on dating and love in the modern digital age, asking if a relationship born on social media can survive the glare of the public eye,” the report says.

The Canadian tennis star retweeted the news, saying: “Welcome to Hollywood.”

How the bet was born

During Super Bowl 51 in 2017, Goehrke became known as the ‘luckiest man in the world’ when he convinced Bouchard to go on a date with him when a bet backfired.

Bouchard was so sure the Falcons would beat the Patriots, she agreed to go out with Goehrke if New England pulled off a miracle comeback.

And that they did.

Goehrke was lucky enough to go to an NBA game alongside Bouchard, before reconnecting with her a number of times, including hanging out together at his house.

They then attended Super Bowl 52 together in 2018, but things seemed to fizzle out after that.

On the two-year anniversary of ‘the bet’, Goehrke sent Bouchard a cheeky message.

The tennis star posted a screenshot of the message on SnapChat.

It doesn’t appear to have worked, but at least he tried.
