Cricket: Gayle back in Windies fray for India T20

West Indies have recalled Chris Gayle for the first time since last year's ICC World Twenty20 triumph, saying their is no doubt he will add value as they take on India in the shortest form of the game.

Gayle last featured for the Windies in their dramatic victory over England in the 2016 World T20 showpiece.

Though the Windies claimed the trophy, Gayle had a disappointing individual tournament, hitting just 113 runs, 100 of which came in their group stage win over England.

But the tournament selectors are more than confident he will contribute in their one-off T20 with India in Kingston on Sunday.

Chairman of selectors Courtney Browne said: "We welcome Chris back to the T20 squad. He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order.

"He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team.

"This squad has a good mix – experience within the batting and bowling – it is a well-balanced squad. Again, this is an opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent and for the experience players to perform and help nurture the young players."

The Windies trail India 2-1 in their ODI series, and will attempt to salvage a draw in the finale at Sabina Park on Thursday.
