Tennis fans have reacted to teen phenom Holger Rune's outburst towards his player's box, which appeared to see the 19-year-old yell at his mother to leave at the French Open.

Rune became extremely irritated during his fiery French Open quarter-final loss to Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

However, viewers were left stunned during the match when Rune appeared to have a go at his mother in the player's box.

Having lost the first set 6-1, Rune was looking for inspiration to get back into the game.

And in a bizarre moment, Rune appeared to yell something, in Danish, in the direction of his player's box at a change of ends.

Many viewers on social media claimed the 19-year-old yelled 'leave' to his mother.

The tennis world didn't take kindly to the outburst and called out the Danish superstar for his outlandish behaviour on the big stage.

In the end, it appears Rune's mother left for a brief moment following the outburst.

The reaction was in stark contrast to Rune in his Fourth Round match.

Rune won over the crowd when he claimed post-match on his historic run: 'My mum is why I am here today'.

There was also some controversy on match point when Rune asked for the chair umpire to check if the ball was in.

When she confirmed the ball was out, Rune presented Ruud with a rather lazy handshake.

This prompted Ruud to shake his head at disappointment towards the 19-year-old.

Tennis icon Rennae Stubbs was one viewer to claim that Rune needed to 'grow up' to develop his game.

Marin Cilic praises rival in French Open match

On the same side of the draw, the match between veteran star Marin Cilic and Andrey Rublev was played in great spirits.

Rublev showed two brilliant acts of sportsmanship towards his rival, which saw the Russian concede two contentious points.

One such point came when Rublev was scrambling to the net after a Cilic drop shot.

The Russian made it, but the ball was called out.

Ciolic pleaded his case to the chair umpire, but to no avail.

However, Rublev jumped in and conceded the point.

This drew praise from the winner Cilic after the match.

Cilic was quick to acknowledge the manner in which the match was played and Rublev's humility.

"Andrey played incredibly well, it was an incredibly fair-play performance on the court," he said.

"The win comes from being me, I played that kind of tennis the whole match. Especially the fifth set was an incredible battle.

"A lot of heart. One had to go down and today was my day. But Andrey also played an incredible match. Bad luck to him.
