Freak injury puts Callum Mills out for season

Callum Mills will miss the rest of the AFL season after suffering a freak injury after training on Thursday.

The 21-year-old broke his foot when he fell while playing with a gridirion ball outside a cafe at Moore Park.

“It was a really unfortunate accident and unfortunately Callum has an operation on Monday and will be out for the rest of the year,” coach John Longmire said

“It’s a bad break. It’s something out of the blue and clearly very disappointing for him and us.”

The AFL’s rising star in 2016, Mills had played every game this season for a total of 55 appearances.

The incident comes a year after Dane Rampe broke his arm when he tripped over a low chain fence near the club’s headquarters.

Rampe went on to miss seven games.

Mills and Gary Rohan (omitted) have been replaced in the Swans’ side to face Brisbane on Saturday by Harry Marsh and debutant Ryley Stoddart.
