Villa boss Houllier insists players are with him

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier insists the players are behind him.

Villa are a point above the relegation zone and Villa fans have turned on boss Houllier.

But he said: "The players know what we're doing in training. They know we're playing for progress and results.

"I have seen they are 100 per cent behind me.

"We know where the land lies, we're not lying to ourselves, we're in a relegation battle.

"It's about the players' future, too. It's about the club, about the fans, it's at the heart of their lives.

"I know the manager is responsible for results but the players are responsible for the game.

"I'm proud of doing the job, the rest of it goes with the territory."
