Tim Cahill has won the ESPY award for best player in Major League Soccer, America’s top football league.

The Socceroo and New York Red Bull was pitted against Montreal Impact’s Marco Di Vaio, LA Galaxy’s Robbie Keane and Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee.

Cahill picks up the award on the back of an impressive 2013/14 season in which he netted 11 goals.

The top gong comes just days after the 34-year-old was nominated by FIFA for goal of the World Cup after his amazing volley against the Netherlands.

The stunning strike had many calling it the best goal of all time.

“It was the best goal of the World Cup and it’s going to go down in history as one of the most beautiful World Cup goals,” said football legend Ronaldo.
