Maradona statue ridiculed after unveiling in India
After a few months' delay, football legend Diego Maradona has unveiled a statue of himself in India.
But the end result is a troubling depiction of his 1986 World Cup triumph that looks little like the man himself.
The 57-year-old was supposed to unveil the statue in Kolkata at the beginning of the Durga Puja festival in September but his trip was postponed.
The weeks in between, however, were evidently not used to make any final adjustments.
Compare the image of Maradona holding aloft the World Cup trophy to the statue:
Just a little bit different, right?
While it was always going to be difficult to get the hair right, the signature smile was reduced to an awkward lip-heavy number surrounded by enormous cheeks.
The statue immediately brought back memories of the Cristiano Ronaldo effort that was unveiled at a Portuguese airport earlier this year:
In what may be a good sign for Maradona, Ronaldo's statue was eventually adjusted after being heavily ridiculed following its debut.
The reactions to Maradona's sculpture hit the nail on the head:

“I am not god of football but a simple footballer,” Maradona said after the reveal.
“I’m happy to be here in Kolkata again. It’s amazing to have my statue here.”
Maradona reportedly visited a hospital later in the day to deliver cheques to cancer patients, while he may also take part in a charity football game.
