Controversial goal sparks 'poor sportsmanship' furore

A German football match descended into chaos when one player displayed what could be the worst sportsmanship ever seen.

Tempers flared in a third-tier match between Jena and SV Meppen on Sunday, which ended in a highly controversial 2-2 draw.

Meppen were leading 2-0 when the drama started as Soeren Eismann pulled one back for Jena.

Eismann’s teammate Julian Guenther-Schmidt was injured in a nasty challenge and raised his hand in apparent pain, leading to Meppen midfielder Nico Granatowski stopping straight away despite the ball being at his feet.

Granatowski appeared set to kick the ball out of play so his opponent could receive some urgent medical attention, until Eismann capitalised on the confusion and took off with the ball.

Eismann strolled straight into the box as defenders didn't even attempt to stop him, slotting the ball straight past the keeper for an easy goal.

The referee had no choice but award the goal, leading to a furious response from Meppen players.

To make matters worse, Jena went on to score another goal to salvage a draw.

It's not the first time we've seen sportsmanship come into question on the football field.
