WATCH: Steward rescues young ball boy from crowd trouble

Video has emerged of a quick thinking steward who rescued an Everton ball boy from crowd trouble during their Europa League qualifier against Hajduk Split.

Fans of Croatian football club Hajduk Split threw missiles and encroached on the pitch and forced the Europa League game at English Premier League club Everton to be temporarily suspended on Thursday.

An Everton steward saw the crowd surging towards the young ball boy and hauled him out of his seat and over the fence and placed him behind a wall of fellow steawrds.

Respect to the young ball boy as well who did not seemed overly fazed by the situation around him and started dribbling the ball around on the field.

Play was actually halted for a few minutes in the first half of Everton's 2-0 play-off first leg win at Goodison Park.

Trouble flared shortly after Michael Keane's 30th-minute header put the Toffees in front.

Slovakian referee Ivan Kruzliak called the players off the pitch as a melee had broken out in the away section.

With some objects being hurled, advertising boards being kicked over and some supporters almost getting on the field, stewards and police swiftly moved over to the area en masse, forming a line around the section.

The situation was sufficiently under control a minute or so later with the referee allowing play to continue.

Everton subsequently doubled their lead in the 45th minute through Idrissa Gueye's strike.
