Candreva screamer sinks Southampton in Europa League

One moment of extraordinary quality from Antonio Candreva decided the Europa League clash between Inter Milan and Southampton at the San Siro.

The Italian’s winner was hit with so much power and precision that it left Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster with absolutely no way of stopping it.

Candreva’s top-corner rocket – which skimmed off the underside of the crossbar– was all the more astonishing because he was running away from goal and had little-to-no backlift when he kicked it.

The wonder strike came as a welcome relief to Inter coach Frank de Boer, whose side snapped a three game losing streak in Europe to claim their first points in the Group K.

Southampton were unable to capitalise on several chances in a match they dominated, with the 1-0 defeat leaving them third in the group.
