Angry bees chase footballers, fans out of stadium

A football match in Ecuador had to be abandoned after a swarm of bees invaded the ground and chased players and supporters from the stadium.

River Plate were taking on Aucas when hundreds of the insects took over the match at the Modelo Alberton Spencer Herrera Stadium.

Players, officials and even fans were forced to flee, swatting at their heads in a desperate dash to safety.

Firefighters wearing protective gear soon arrived but not before officials were forced to postpone the fixture.

The match was eventually replayed with River Plate winning 3-0.
