Desperate to make amends for a mistake that put Gonzalo Higuain through on goal, Medel collided heavily with the woodwork after throwing himself at the ball.

Replays showed the Argentine's strike was actually going wide of the goal, meaning his Medel's painful sacrifice wasn’t even necessary.
