Socceroos future bright with new look squad

Ange Postecoglou's decision to bring more youngsters into the Socceroos fold is set to further enhance Australia's chances at major tournaments.

The Australian coach named his squad for the nation's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Tajikistan and Jordan this week, with a great mix of experience and youth.

While leaving out the likes of Asian Cup winners James Troisi, Matt McKay, Alex Wilkinson, Tommy Oar and Jason Davidson, the most exciting additions include former Sydney FC left back Alex Gersbach and Jason Geria.

Add to that the return of the ever reliant Matthew Spiranovic and Terry Antonis and the Socceroos stocks continue to rise.

The more players who are drafted into the national team fold, the more competition is set for each position hence further improving our football.

Most importantly the Socceroos could have a new man to lead their line with Apostolos Giannou being called into the side.

Giannou was born in Greece before moving to Melbourne at a young age.

He started his professional career back in the Greek Super League, spending nine seasons there bagging 38 goals in 159 matches before joining Guangzhou R&F recently.

At 26 years of age he has the chance to impress Postecoglou with the opportunity of a life time to be the man to replace Tim Cahill at the top for the Asian champions.

Either way, things are looking up for the Socceroos.
