A $3 million sports car belonging to football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been involved in a crash on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

One of Ronaldo's bodyguards was reportedly behind the wheel of the Bugatti Veyron when it left the road and crashed on Monday.

Ronaldo and his family were travelling in a different vehicle in a small convoy when the accident occurred.

Thankfully no one was injured in the crash after the car hit a stone wall.

The front of the Bugatti was reportedly heavily damaged.

According to local newspaper Cronica Balear, the unidentified bodyguard continued on the journey with Ronaldo and his family and left other staff at the scene to assist police.

“The car smashed into a wall but there was only material damage with no-one injured and the driver accepted full responsibility for what happened," The Sun quoted a source as saying.

“The information about who was behind the wheel and what occurred is registered on a police database and is there for a court or officers to access if any further investigations need to be conducted.

“But it is more a case of the information needing to be registered so the owner of the property that was damaged can put in a compensation claim and use the police report as a back-up in case there is any dispute down the line about how the damage was done.”

Spanish police later confirmed they had no information to suggest Ronaldo had been in the car at the time.

The identity of the bodyguard has not been revealed, but it is well documented that Ronaldo and his family are protected in the UK by Portuguese twins who served as soldiers with an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan.

According to the Evening Standard: "The strongmen have been named as Sergio and Jorge Ramalheiro, who went on to become part of a Portuguese close protection unit tasked with watching over the likes of politicians and judges after serving in Afghanistan."

Cristiano Ronaldo's family holiday in Mallorca

Ronaldo reportedly had the car shipped over from Manchester for the holiday.

A gift from wife Georgina, the car is part of Ronaldo's $17 million fleet or vehicles.

The Manchester United superstar has been pictured on his $9.7 million superyacht in recent days with Georgina and their children in Port Adriano in the south-west of Mallorca.

The family are believed to be staying a luxury villa near Monday's accident near Joan March Hospital in the municipality of Bunyola.

Ronaldo and his children Cristiano Jr (12), Eva (5), Matteo (5), Alana Martina (4), and Bella (two months), flew to Mallorca by private jet last week.

They recently celebrated Cristiano Jr's birthday together.
