Fans furious as sun sets on sorry Bruno Fornaroli saga
Nearly four months since their ugly public spat began, Melbourne City and Bruno Fornaroli will part ways.
The two parties have agreed to a severance package, but the star striker is not eligible to sign with another A-League team this season.
The Uruguayan is expected to sign with fellow A-League club, Perth Glory, for next season.
Getting Fornaroli off the books comes as a financial win for the club, who have been paying his $100,000 per month contract with no return since sidelining him.
That win will nonetheless come at a cost, with Melbourne City fans furious about the club favourite’s departure.
Disgusting. Lack of respect to the clubs greatest ever player, to sideline him and give us no explanation as to why speaks volumes about this club. Thank you for your service Bruno, wish it didn’t end like this @MelbourneCity #thankyoubruno https://t.co/DE6r3LOJog

How to alienate what little support you have left featuring Melbourne City & the CFG & Warren Joyce #JoyceOut https://t.co/DmBMtx6vdg

And just like that, there goes what little support the club had left. The wrong person is leaving the club today. Sadly doesn’t seem like this club will get it until there is actually nobody physically left in the stands.

How sad that Melbourne City have just wasted a year of Bruno Fornaroli’s career. Hurts the fans more than anyone else. Hope he can get back to his best at another team soon (probably Perth Glory)

Signed in 2015 as a relative unknown, Fornaroli quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier scorers.
Despite guiding the club to their best ever A-League finish, Fornaroli and coach Warren Joyce had a falling out in November last year.
The coach dropped his star player, taking the view that their star player wasn’t fit enough or committed to their season to go on.
Fornaroli helped the side win their only silverware, the 2016 FFA Cup.
