F1 rookie's embarrassing blue on Monaco debut
Williams rookie Sergey Sirotkin has suffered an embarrassing blue in his first session at the famed Monaco Grand Prix as a Formula One driver.
First practice, running on Thursday as per tradition, was not 20 minutes old when the Russian found a wall.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old it was in the most bizarre fashion – he clipped a barrier on the main straight.
Williams are considered to have the worst car on the grid this season, making it difficult for Sirotkin and his 19-year-old teammate Lance Stroll to handle.
Some fans theorised Sirotkin was caught in the shadow or miscalculated the width of his rear tyres.
The incident occurred after the pit-lane entry and he was forced to drive all the way around the 3.34km circuit with a punctured right rear.
“He’s lucky A) it didn’t come off and B) he’s done a very good job, I think, there getting the car back to the pits,” Sky Sports commentator David Croft said.
Sirotkin likely damaged the floor of his car, however, giving his team some work to do.
