F1 boss Stefano Domenicali has claimed the premier racing competition will never again return to Russia after cancelling the scheduled Grand Prix last year.

The GP was scheduled for Sochi in 2023, but was changed to St Petersburg for future events.

However, after the cancellation of the GP due to Russian president Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, the GP was removed from the F1 schedule.

And now, Domenicali has doubled down and claimed there are no future plans on a return to Russia.

"I've always believed that you should never say never," Domenicali told Sport Bild magazine, per GrandPrix.com.

"But in this case, I can promise for sure — we will no longer negotiate with them.

While the F1 race was cancelled due to the invasion of Ukraine, Russian organisers are seeking compensation.

Alexey Titov, the CEO of Russian GP promoter ANO Rosgonki, claimed he expected the F1 to refund the payments made for the cancellation of the 2022 race.

"This debt exists, it is confirmed and our position on it is unchanged," Titov told Russian news agency Tass.

"We expect a refund regardless of the current position of Formula One Management in relation to holding races in the Russian Federation.

"The current situation in world sports is extremely politicised. It is necessary to take Domenicali's words here with this in mind. What he said has a pronounced political connotation that has nothing to do with the real spirit of sports.

"The future of our relations today is really unclear. We will take Domenicali's position into account in our further work."

The GP has been held in Sochi every year since 2014.

Mercedes has won every GP held at the Sochi Autodrome track.

Earlier this year, the Russian GP was removed from the Formula One calendar only days after several drivers vowed to boycott the race in the wake of Russian troops entering Ukraine.

Four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel was the first of a number of drivers to publicly state their opposition to racing in Russia this season.

Prior to the announcement that the Russian GP would be cancelled, the Aston Martin driver stated he would not race there under any circumstances.
