Ezra Mam crash victim opens up on injuries as Broncos player checks himself into rehab
The child in the Uber Mam crashed into suffered a fractured hip and seatbelt burns.
The woman involved in the Ezra Mam Uber crash has spoken of the trauma and damage created by the incident, revealing the injuries her and her young daughter suffered. As the Brisbane star continues his rehab program after checking himself into a facility on Monday, more details have emerged about the collision and its impact.
Queensland Police are yet to press charges but will allege Mam was unlicensed and failed a roadside drug test after allegedly ploughing into the Uber in Brisbane last Friday. Police are awaiting the results of a second test before deciding their next move.
Mam's future at the club remains uncertain, the incident placing his $4m contract in severe jeopardy as new coach Michael Maguire attempts to start a new era free of the off-field scandals that pockmarked Kevin Walters' stint in charge. The female Uber passenger, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was travelling in the backseat of the car with her four-year-old daughter when she noticed Mam's ute heading towards them.
"I can remember looking up and straight away I've seen this car veer straight in front of us... I knew what was going to come next," she told Nine News Brisbane. "That's when the vehicle hit us."
The woman said her child suffered a fractured hip as a result of the collision and both are recovering from seatbelt burns. They have not heard from Mam directly since the incident but Broncos officials have reached out to express their concern and check on the family's welfare.
The woman was on the verge of tears as she recalled the moment of collision. "I can't rest because every time I close my eyes all I see is that vehicle," she said. "But not just only that…(it's) the impact that it's had on my family, who have supported me (and my daughter) through all of this."

Ezra Mam 'extremely remorseful' as he checks into rehab
A statement from the Broncos read: "Ezra is extremely remorseful. "He is concerned, first and foremost, for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.
"He acknowledges he’s facing some personal challenges and, following these recent events, has taken a proactive step by seeking immediate professional treatment." Penrith great Greg Alexander described Mam's entry into rehab as a "circuit breaker".
"It’s not surprising this is the way it's gone. Rehab is a circuit breaker…it shuts the story down," he told Radio SEN. "It stops the talk and gives the impression things are being looked after."
