Everton vs Liverpool LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Everton vs Liverpool - LIVE!

Everton dealt a potentially fatal blow to Liverpool’s title hopes and all but secured their own Premier League survival with a superb 2-0 win at Goodison Park. The Toffees had not won a Merseyside derby on home soil since 2010, but rose to the occasion and bullied Liverpool in a physical display, moving themselves eight points clear of the relegation zone with just four matches to play.

Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, both from set-pieces, downed Liverpool in Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside derby, and surely leaves the title race as a two-horse race between Arsenal and Manchester City. Liverpool trail the Gunners by three points, and hold just a one-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s side despite playing two games more.

Diaz crashed an effort off the post as Liverpool pushed for a way back into the match, but those comeback homes petered out as Everton appeared increasingly comfortable in ticking away the minutes, securing a result that almost certainly ensures there will be Merseyside derbies on the Premier League fixture list next season.

Their first win over Liverpool on home soil since 2010 - it surely secures their Premier League survival.

And it is, you would think, a fatal blow to Liverpool’s title hopes.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:49 , Matt Verri

86 mins: There’s a lot of frustration in this Liverpool side now - kicking out.

The Toffees are just a few minutes away from a first Merseyside derby win at home in 14 years.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

84 mins: That tells you all you need to know.

Robertson and Alexander-Arnold are off, Tsimikas and Gomez on for the final ten minutes or so.

Alexander-Arnold pulls his shirt over his head on the bench - he looks devastated.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:45 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Alexander-Arnold with a wild effort from distance. Turned into more of a conversion in the end.

Klopp looks deflated on the touchline, none of the screaming we saw earlier. Looks like a man who knows this race is run.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:42 , Matt Verri

79 mins: This has been a fairly disastrous night for Salah.

Ball bobbles into his path in the box, he swings a boot at it and the ball flies over the bar. Not happening for him.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:40 , Matt Verri

76 mins: Everton doing a good job of slowing things down, seconds are ticking away for Liverpool.

Quansah goes long to Salah, Young wins the header though and it loops up perfectly for Pickford.

72 mins: Sums things up.

Diaz slides a pass down the side, Robertson gets to the byline and then trips over the ball.

Huge cheers around Goodison - this is turning into a famous night.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:33 , Matt Verri

69 mins: OFF THE POST!

Brilliant from Diaz, skipping into the box and onto his right foot. Hammers a strike towards the far corner, smacks back off the woodwork. Pickford didn’t move.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:32 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Alexander-Arnold out wide for once, whips a ball into the middle and Nunez punches away under pressure from Pickford.

Comes back to Alexander-Arnold, poor ball this time and Gueye clears.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:29 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Make that three corners in a row. Again Alexander-Arnold can only turn the ball behind.

Everton are all over Liverpool from these set-pieces, look like they’re going to score every single time.

And again - Tarkowski wins the first header, Branthwaite nods wide with the second. Would have been offside.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:28 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Should be 3-0!

Calvert-Lewin with the flick-on, Endo makes a mess of things and McNeil is free in the box. Shot spins behind for a corner.

Garner’s cross is too deep, Alexander-Arnold could let it go... but he flicks it away for another corner.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:27 , Matt Verri

63 mins: Three Liverpool changes.

Konate, Jones and Szoboszlai are off. Quansah, Endo and Elliot introduced in search of a miracle.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool

21:23 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Liverpool have half an hour to save their season. Really they need three goals to stay in the title race.

They are still not moving the ball particularly quickly. Everton look solid in their shape.

GOAL! Everton 2-0 Liverpool | Dominic Calvert-Lewin 58'

21:21 , Matt Verri

IT’S TWO!

McNeil swings in the corner deep to the back post, and Calvert-Lewin rises highest to power a header past Alisson!

Klopp laughing on the touchline.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

21:20 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Salah has been really poor. Just lets the ball roll under his foot and Everton can break.

Comes to McNeil, 25 yards out and plenty of space. Alisson tips it over for a corner.

Crowd are up again!

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

21:19 , Matt Verri

55 mins: A rare Everton attack, great footwork from Doucoure.

Comes wide to Harrison, he lays it off to Gueye and the scuffed effort that follows barely reaches Alisson.

At the other end, Diaz cuts it back to Salah and he can only poke an effort at Pickford.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

21:16 , Matt Verri

53 mins: As well as Everton are defending, not sure how sustainable this one-way traffic is. The Toffees are just camped in their own area.

Jones and Szoboszlai both have efforts blocked, before Alexander-Arnold and Szoboszlai then tackle each other.

Everton have the chance to break, but Calvert-Lewin instead goes for goal from the halfway line. Not a particularly wise decision.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

21:13 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Pattern of the rest of the match has already been set.

Everton with everyone behind the ball, Liverpool faced with a wall of blue shirts to try and break down.

Not going to be easy - have to move it a lot quicker than they are at the moment.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

21:11 , Matt Verri

47 mins: Early Liverpool corner, as Gueye boots the ball behind from a Robertson cut-back.

It’s the left-back to swing it in, Van Dijk gets up well but heads straight at Pickford.

Back underway!

21:08 , Matt Verri

Up and running for the second-half.

Young is on for Everton, replacing Mykolenko who had that really nasty twist of his ankle.

First-half stats

21:01 , Matt Verri

Liverpool had more than 75% of the ball, but did very little with it until those final 15 minutes.

Nine shots for the visitors, eight for Everton. Been a really enjoyable watch.

Key stat has actually been the fouls. Nine from Liverpool and it has allowed the Toffees to keep putting the ball into the box.

Everton with a lead to defend...

20:57 , Matt Verri

The Toffees with the narrow lead at half-time.

It was a bit of a shambles at the back from Liverpool - plenty of opportunities to clear the danger.

HT: Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:52 , Matt Verri

And Everton make it to the break!

Much better from Liverpool in the closing stages of the half, but they were really poor early on.

Everton won every duel, far more up for it and they deservedly took the lead.

Got to imagine there will be a Liverpool charge after the break though.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:51 , Matt Verri

45+5 mins: The shots are flying in from Liverpool... the bodies are flying in the way from Everton.

Goodison faithful trying to rally the hosts, who are camped inside their own box. Salah and Robertson the latest to go close.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:49 , Matt Verri

45+3 mins: Everton could really do with half-time now.

Struggling to get out, Calvert-Lewin increasingly isolated. Liverpool have certainly improved.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:46 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Watch out. The chances are coming for Liverpool.

Salah has an effort, blocked and straight back to him. Decent chance, well over the bar.

Those are two wild shots from the Egyptian, who has barely had a kick.

Six minutes added on.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:45 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Salah and Nunez combine, nodded into Diaz’s path and he’s unable to beat Pickford. Goalkeeper makes the save with his feet.

Corner Liverpool, Robertson takes. Mykolenko, with his elastic ankles, hammers the ball out of play.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:44 , Matt Verri

43 mins: So awkward, in fact, that we’re not getting replays. Nasty one for Mykolenko.

He’s on his feet and is able to limp to the touchline Now Sky do show a replay... wish they hadn’t. Looks horrific.

He’s somehow carrying on though.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:42 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Nice one-two with Diaz and Robertson, left-back plays in a cross but Tarkowski, as ever, wins the header.

Mykolenko has gone down, he’s punching the floor in pain. Looks to have twisted really awkwardly.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:38 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Everton win another fairly cheap free-kick, and Van Dijk goes charging over to the referee to complain. Yellow card for dissent.

Liverpool are really rattled - players and manager.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:36 , Matt Verri

35 mins: All so scrappy from Liverpool, heavy touches and loose passes every few seconds.

Szoboszlai tries to bundle his way into the box, Branthwaite is there to slam the door shut.

Nunez then clean through, has to score... saved! He basically blasted it straight at Pickford.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:33 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Liverpool seeing more of the ball, but going nowhere with it.

Jones down just outside the box, referee waves away the appeals. You can have a guess how Klopp has taken that news - a yellow card is not far away.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool

20:30 , Matt Verri

29 mins: VAR has a long look at offside - goal stands!

Calvert-Lewin came sliding in to turn the ball in, but it had already just about crossed the line. Branthwaite’s goal.

GOAL! Everton 1-0 Liverpool | Jarrad Branthwaite 27'

20:28 , Matt Verri

That is very, very soft. Klopp continues to lecture the fourth official.

Gueye just flops to the floor under pressure from Jones, gets the decision. Generous to put it mildly.

Branthwaite with the header across goal, Liverpool don’t clear it properly. Hacked back to the defender, shot squirms under Alisson and in!

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:26 , Matt Verri

25 mins: Calvert-Lewin is all over Konate. The Liverpool defender gives him a shove in the air, another free-kick for the hosts.

This is as good as Calvert-Lewin has looked in a long time.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:24 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Liverpool’s turn to try their luck from set-pieces. They win a couple of corners in quick succession.

Robertson swings it in, decent delivery but Everton just about clear the danger.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:21 , Matt Verri

20 mins: Again Everton win the first header from a set-piece. Liverpool cannot deal with them in the air.

Plenty of clapping from Dyche on the touchline. Klopp looking a lot less thrilled with life.

Konate goes over the top, Pickford off his line... Nunez can’t get a touch to take it past him.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:18 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Big save from Alisson!

Tarkowski wins the initial header from the free-kick, nodded to Calvert-Lewin at the back post and he forces the Liverpool goalkeeper into action.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:18 , Matt Verri

16 mins: Liverpool really sloppy on the ball. Mac Allister not his usual calming presence.

They lose it again, Harrison brought down by Jones. That’s all Klopp needs to embark on another rant at the fourth official.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:15 , Matt Verri

14 mins: McNeil clips it to the back post, Godfrey is unmarked but he nods into the side-netting. Should have made more of that.

Liverpool haven’t really got going yet, not the quick start they were looking for.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:14 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Everton are right up for this, it’s been an impressive start.

Gueye drops a shoulder, Mac Allister sticks out a leg and it’s another free-kick for Everton. Probably 25 yards out.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:13 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Everton free-kick, no surprise that they send this long into the box.

Tarkowski the target at the back post, Szoboszlai does well to compete with him though and clear the danger.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:11 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Off the line!

Alexander-Arnold with a glorious ball over the top, Salah rolls a volley across the face of goal and Godfrey slides in to turn it behind for a corner. Sensational defending.

NO PENALTY!

20:08 , Matt Verri

Or not...

It was a foul, but Calvert-Lewin was offside as Harrison played the ball into him.

Big let-off for Liverpool.

PENALTY EVERTON!

20:07 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Well then!

Tarkowski with a brilliant challenge and Everton are away on the attack.

Ball whipped in, Calvert-Lewin knocks it past Alisson and goes down... penalty!

Yellow card for the goalkeeper.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: First Everton attack and it’s a really dangerous one.

Harrison clips a great ball into the middle, Konate can only flick it to McNeil. He fires it back in low, falls to Doucoure and he guides a shot wide.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

20:03 , Matt Verri

2 mins: No surprise that Liverpool are dominating possession.

Alexander-Arnold tucking into midfield and getting plenty of time on the ball. Very nearly pings a ball over the top for Diaz, but Pickford reads it and comes off his line to claim.

KICK-OFF!

20:01 , Matt Verri

We’re up and running at Goodison Park!

19:58 , Matt Verri

A big deep breath from Jurgen Klopp as he follows his side out.

He’s made it very clear he doesn’t enjoy this fixture - only has to put up with it for another 90 minutes.

Here we go!

19:56 , Matt Verri

Teams are in the tunnel at Goodison.

Don’t get too many derbies happening at 8pm - should be a special atmosphere tonight.

Klopp explains team selection

19:51 , Matt Verri

"Diogo [Jota] is injured and Cody probably has the best excuse of all! Timing is not great, but much more important, right now they are expecting a baby; now, maybe!

"So, these are two changes we had to make. And then [in] midfield [it] makes sense, the boys played together before. We need fresh legs today as much as we can.

“Ibou coming back, I don't know who else, I don't think it's too many besides that.

"We meet a good team, we have a good team and now we have to play good football."

Not long now...

19:40 , Matt Verri

Kick-off coming up in just under 20 minutes at Goodison Park.

Defeat tonight for Liverpool and you’d have to think their title hopes are over. Need to come here and pick up all three points to stay in the hunt.

Dyche relishing first home derby

19:34 , Matt Verri

Tonight is Sean Dyche’s first Merseyside derby at Goodison Park - he’d be a very popular man if he can put an end to the 14-year winless run.

"I'm well aware of the records that people have been telling me,” the Everton boss said.

“I'm looking forward to the game. I didn't grow up here so I don't have the depth of understanding [of the rivalry] but what I do understand is how important it is to be Everton's manager - in all games, but particularly this one."

Klopp: Merseyside derbies not enjoyable

19:22 , Matt Verri

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he won’t miss Merseyside derbies when he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season, with the pressure making it “not enjoyable” for him.

“Around the derby is just pressure,” Klopp said.

“The pressure is higher so why should the joy be higher? You win it, great; but why should I miss the pressure around it? This time, when you’re really playing for something, that’s the pressure.

“But when you are both not in a great moment, it’s the one game you definitely have to win. That kind of pressure – why would I miss that? It’s not enjoyable.”

In the building!

19:15 , Matt Verri

Everton have arrived at Goodison Park.

One win over Liverpool in the Premier League on home soil since 2006. It’s a woeful record, for all there have been plenty of draws.

Sean Dyche’s side would certainly take a point tonight, though...

Changes for both sides!

19:06 , Matt Verri

As expected, a number of Liverpool stars come back into the starting lineup.

Konate partners Van Dijk, while Salah, Nunez, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai all start in what is near enough a first-choice side.

Everton have Calvert-Lewin fit to lead the side, while Godfrey gets the nod over Young at right-back.

Team news coming up!

Set to be a landmark night for Jarrad Branthwaite.

All the team news from Goodison Park will be here in the next few minutes.

Van Dijk: We have to win all five games

18:46 , Matt Verri

Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool must a disastrous run behind them, as they switch focus to a huge Merseyside derby after keeping their title hopes alive at Fulham.

Liverpool bounced back from their damaging 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace and then their Europa League exit with a much-needed win at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Van Dijk has warned they cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to keep themselves in the title race.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks,” said the Liverpool captain.

“We have five games left and have to try to win every one of them. Then we’ll see if it’s enough. We did our job, we won. Now it’s time to recover and be ready for the Merseyside derby, a big game.”

Last time they met...

18:37 , Matt Verri

It was a relatively comfortable win for Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season.

Ashley Young was sent-off in the first-half and, although Everton held firm for 75 minutes, the almost inevitable Liverpool win came.

Two from Mohamed Salah - job done.

Everton looking to snap long winless run

18:27 , Matt Verri

Everton have not beaten Liverpool at Goodison Park since 2010, a winless run of 12 Premier League matches.

This is Jurgen Klopp’s final match in charge against the Toffees and he has the chance to pick up a tenth league win over Everton, the most of any Liverpool manager.

Imagine that’s not at the front of his mind tonight...

How it stands...

18:16 , Matt Verri

Victory for Liverpool tonight and they will move level on points with Arsenal at the top.

Goal difference is a problem for the Reds - currently 13 worse than the Gunners’. And there’s the small issue of Man City, who will have two games in hand and be only four points behind even if Liverpool do win at Goodison.

Everton are 16th in the table and five points clear of the relegation zone. Feels like they will be fine now, but a win here and you’d have to think that is their survival secured.

Slot leads Liverpool manager race

18:05 , Matt Verri

Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is now the leading candidate to become new Liverpool manager.

Jurgen Klopp is leaving Anfield at the end of the season and the club have been busy making contact with potential successors, and Slot is considered top of a three- to seven-man managerial shortlist.

Slot has enjoyed success at both Feyenoord and earlier AZ, which attracted Tottenham last summer before Ange Postecoglou was appointed.

The 45-year-old rejected Spurs last summer in favour of signing of a new contract, but is ready to leave the Dutch giants.

Liverpool remain open to other options and consider Bayern Munich a potential rival to Slot’s signature.

Standard Sport prediction

17:57 , Matt Verri

Everton would surely love to stop Liverpool’s title charge but it is difficult to see that happening, given their respective records this season.

The Reds returned to winning ways against Fulham and they can get the job done here.

Liverpool to win 2-0.

Liverpool team news

17:51 , Matt Verri

Liverpool have recovered a number of their injured players of late, although Joel Matip, Ben Doak and Thiago Alcantara will play no part.

Stefan Bajcetic is being eased back into action. Diogo Jota has been hit with a fresh hip injury and will miss around two weeks of action.

Jurgen Klopp opted to rotate all of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

It remains to be seen whether or not all of those come back in.

Everton team news

Everton will likely be without striker Beto after he was stretchered off against Forest following a clash of heads. He has since been released from hospital.

Seamus Coleman may be closing in on a return but this comes too soon. All of Dele Alli, Nathan Patterson and Lewis Dobbin will miss out.

Everton are hopeful of having Dominic Calvert-Lewin available.
