England rocked by injury scare six days before World Cup

England captain Eoin Morgan has been sent to hospital to undergo scans on a finger injury.

The scare comes just six days out from the host nation’s Cricket World Cup opener.

Morgan, 32, suffered the injury to his left index finger during fielding drills at training.

He would appear unlikely to play in England’s warm-up clash with Australia on Saturday.

Widely regarded as England’s finest limited-overs skipper, Morgan is also in a rich vein of form with the bat.

He was one of 14 players preparing at Hampshire’s ground, with Joe Root absent on personal business.

Root was set to rejoin the team ahead of the clash with Australia, for which England plan to use 12 players.

The hosts open the tournament proper against South Africa at The Oval next Thursday.
