Eddie Betts calls out fan over disgusting racist comment

Eddie Betts has taken to social media to call out a fan’s racial vilification.

On Saturday night, Betts revealed a racist comment he’d received on a photo he’d posted of him arriving at AFLX on Friday night.

The ‘fan’ had commented ‘monkey see monkey do’ on the photo.

“When will it stop, why can’t we just play footy?” Betts wrote as he highlighted the comment.

“Why can’t we just all get along?”

Unfortunately for Betts it’s not the first time he’s had to deal with racial vilification.

He’s been the focus of several vile social media slurs throughout his career, while also having a banana thrown at him during a game in 2016.

The latest comment is particularly disappointing considering Betts had ‘lived a dream’ by captaining an all-indigenous side at AFLX.

“I have always had a dream about putting an indigenous side together and playing against the best players in the AFL,” Betts said previously.

“This is kind of the same, but not as big – it’s a mini-version of it. It’s like a dream come true.

“If you asked anyone, if you wanted to play a game early on in the pre-season against the best players in the AFL, you’d take that any day of the week.”
