The last time Derry faced Dublin at Croke Park, there were five goals, two red cards, a penalty shootout and a piece of silverware for the Oak Leafers at the end of a hugely entertaining Division One final last year.

There is no trophy on offer this weekend, but the stakes remain high for Derry on their return to headquarters after a sluggish start under the new playing rules this season.

Under new boss Paddy Tally, the league holders lost to Tyrone and Kerry, and while they fought back from nine points down to draw with Galway last week, the pressure to put points on the board continues to intensify.

However, the draw with Galway will have galvanised Tally's side. Having initially struggled against a slick Tribesmen outfit, their cause was helped by Lachlan Murray's second-half introduction.

The Desertmartin youngster hit 0-3 after replacing Ben McCarron and helped Derry secure a much-needed first point of the campaign. Having also caused Dublin myriad problems in last year's final, Murray is primed to start on Saturday evening.

But while Derry admirably salvaged a point against Galway, Dublin have been buoyed by a stirring comeback of their own after overturning an 11-point half-time deficit to edge past Kerry in a Tralee thriller last week.

And while they are shorn of stalwarts Brian Fenton, James McCarthy, Jack McCaffrey, Michael Fitzsimons and Paul Mannion, the sensational form of Sean Bugler illustrates the firepower still at Dessie Farrell's disposal.

With high-scoring games commonplace in this new version of football, Dublin and Derry could light up Croke Park all over again.

Before that on Saturday, Armagh will attempt to bounce back from last week's loss to Donegal when they host Mayo at the Athletic Grounds (17:00 GMT).

The All-Ireland champions are without captain Aidan Forker, who is suspended after his red card for headbutting returning Donegal star Michael Murphy last week, with Paddy Burns named to start.

Armagh have endured a mixed start to the season having also lost to Galway before beating Tyrone. But Orchard boss Kieran McGeeney will hope that home advantage can help see them past a Mayo side who have also picked up just two points from three games.

Kevin McStay's team edged past Tyrone in a lacklustre game in Castlebar last week, but in-form operators such as Frank Irwin (man of the match against the Red Hands) can certainly cause for the hosts.

McGeeney's hand, however, has been bolstered by the returns of Rory Grugan and Connaire Mackin, both of whom have been named to start on Saturday.

Will Murphy start for Donegal?

There are two big Division One games on Sunday, too. First, Tyrone aim to bounce back from that disappointing trip to Mayo against Kerry (13:45 GMT). It will undoubtedly provide another stiff test for Malachy O'Rourke's side, especially with David Clifford having returned to action for the Kingdom last week.

After that, it's Galway v Donegal in a meeting between the top two. Given last year's All-Ireland semi-final - which Galway won by two points - this was already an intriguing game on paper, but Michael Murphy's dramatic return to action last week will surely draw even more eyes to the action in Salthill.

Donegal boss Jim McGuinness may be tempted to start Murphy, but given his two-year spell away from the inter-county scene, it would not be surprising to see the 2012 All-Ireland winner once again used as an impact sub.

While the Ulster champions are top with three wins from three, Galway have adapted impressively to the new rules, with last week's second-half collapse against Derry the only blot on their 2025 copybook.

Murphy's return already feels significant, but Donegal's attack had already been purring prior to the former captain's re-emergence with a revitalised Patrick McBrearty hitting six points against Armagh in his first start of the year.

Whoever prevails on Sunday will take a significant step towards next month's Division One final.

In Division Two, Monaghan welcome Cork to Inniskeen in a game featuring two sides trying to keep pace with pacesetters Roscommon.

Originally fixed for Sunday, the match was brought forward to Saturday (14:30 GMT) because of the weather forecast.

On Sunday, Cavan travel to Westmeath (14:00 GMT) while Down are away to Louth (14:30 GMT) with both Ulster sides on the hunt for points after two defeats in the opening three rounds.

With uncertainty remaining over their Ulster quarter-final against Armagh, Antrim will hope to pick up a second win of the season when they host Division Three strugglers Leitrim at Corrigan Park on Saturday (14:30 GMT), while Fermanagh aim to overcome Offaly - co-managed by Mickey Harte - in Enniskillen on Sunday (14:00 GMT).
