Football community rocked by Declan Bingham's death
Bingham played for Magic United on the Gold Coast, with the club sharing its devastation on social media.
"Magic United would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the Bingham Family," the club said in a statement.
"Declan Bingham tragically passed away in an accident.
"Declan has over the years played for various age groups at Magic and, more recently, the senior Men's team."
Declan played with father Troy for the Magic United reserve grade side in 2015.
He had been in the US for the last seven years and attended Gannon University on a sports scholarship.
Troy went to the same university 30 years ago and was inducted into the school's sporting Hall of Fame.
"Our prayers are with Declan and Sheldon's family and friends during this difficult time," the university said in a statement.
University spokesman Doug Oathout said Declan Bingham was a former team captain and graduated in 2020.
The team's Twitter account describes him as one of the most successful Gannon players of all time.
Gannon men's and women's soccer teams elected to cancel games that had been scheduled for Sunday out of respect for their former teammate.
