Davante Adams trade rumors: Latest news on Raiders' star wide receiver

Las Vegas Raiders star receiver Davante Adams shocked the world on Tuesday when he reportedly told the team he "prefers to be traded."

The six-time Pro Bowler has been dealing with a hamstring issue as of late, and missed the Raiders' Week 4 win against Cleveland. Adams' status for Vegas' Week 5 game against Denver was still up in the air at the time of the trade news. Essentially, his injury doesn't seem like it would deter many teams from trading for him. Furthermore, despite Adams' age (he turns 34 in December), he's still recorded 100-plus receptions in each of the last four years. He's still a very productive player at this stage.

With all that said, the market for Adams should be hot, and if the rumors are to be believed, the deal could happen at any moment now.

Here are the latest rumors surrounding a potential Davante Adams trade.

Davante Adams trade rumors

Jets and Saints are among the favorites, report says

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Adams would prefer to play with a quarterback he knows. Well, both the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets are starting Adams' former quarterbacks – Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers, respectively.

Both the Jets and Saints are 2-2 and could be looking for an additional piece to help them contend in their respective divisions. Adams would be a massive help to both squads, neither of which have an elite second option behind their current top receivers.

Of course, the biggest drawback to making such a trade would be the cost.

How much would Davante Adams be worth in a trade?

Schefter reports that the Raiders would consider trading Adams for a second-round pick and additional compensation.

Though it is unclear what the "additional compensation" would be. It could likely entail a Day 3 draft pick or a player who could come in and start for the Raiders immediately. That doesn't necessarily mean a receiver. The Raiders have a lot of holes across their team. Arguably, their biggest needs are on the defensive side of the ball.

Dallas Cowboys uninterested?

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that the Cowboys are not interested in trading for Adams. The team already has a fairly solid wide receiver room featuring CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks, but the addition of Adams would certainly be a massive help for a team having trouble running the football.

However, the Cowboys disinterest in Adams is further confirmed by head coach Mike McCarthy's statements regarding his receiver room. On Wednesday morning, McCarthy informed reporters that he is comfortable with his current receiver contingent.

Of course, this doesn't mean that McCarthy is totally uninterested in bringing Adams aboard. This statement could just be McCarthy looking to avoid any tampering accusations, as outwardly expressing interest in another player currently under contract could fall under that category. Regardless, though, Dallas seems to be an unlikely landing spot currently.

Could the Kansas City Chiefs be in the market?

Given the injury to star receiver Rashee Rice in Week 4, the Chiefs seem like a great fit for Adams. Let's keep in mind though that the Chiefs are in the same division as the Raiders. An interdivisional trade of this magnitude would be shocking to say the least. Schefter echoes that in his post on X.

While the Chiefs are expected to explore options at wide receiver, the most common names brought up in those conversations seem to be Amari Cooper and DeAndre Hopkins. Adams appears to be off the table.

What other teams could be interested?

There are several teams that need help at receiver and are also in a position to compete for a Super Bowl. The most obvious teams are the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills. The Ravens are a run-heavy team though, and leaning on Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry to carry their offense has served them well. Going after a star receiver, although logical, probably doesn't help the Ravens as much as they'd like for his price tag.

The Bills on the other hand are a tremendous fit. The Raiders said they desire a second-round pick and additional compensation? Guess which team has an extra second-round pick, potentially two extra fourth-round picks, and an additional sixth-round pick. That's right, the Bills have the need at receiver, the resources to make the trade, and they just suffered an embarrassing loss to the Ravens where quarterback Josh Allen could not get the pass game going. The pieces are all there.

The Bills are reportedly in contention for Adams, although not the favorites. NFL insider James Palmer said on Tuesday, "Another team to really keep an eye on, in my opinion, the Bills. That team can be good offensively. That's a team that's a Super Bowl contender and has been lacking at the receiver spot."

Palmer does note that due to Josh Allen's insane contract, the money for Adams may not necessarily be there, but everyone knows that the salary cap is workable. Money can be moved around, and if the team really wants Adams, they can get creative.
