Danish striker suffers broken ankle in horrific tackle
While fans of the Premier League can be forgiven for wiping Andreas Cornelius' name from their memories, the player himself has made headlines across Europe after suffering a horror ankle break during a match in Denmark on Monday.
The 6' 4" frontman joined Cardiff for $15.5m in 2013 but endured a disappointing six-months in Wales and rejoined his hometown club FC Copenhagen last year.
Danish TV station TV3 report that Cornelius's ankle was "badly damaged" following the mistimed sliding tackle from Silkeborg midfielder Dennis Flinta, who got away with just a booking.
"It was terrible to look at. It is a shame for FCK, but I am most sorry for Andreas, who has a long way to go now [to recover]", said Silkeborg manager Kim Poulsen.
Cornelius has been an integral part of FC Copenhagen's side this season having scored six goals in 22 games, while he also netted a Champions League goal against Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk earlier in the season.
FC Copenhagen went on to win the match 4-0 to keep the pressure on first placed Midtjylland, but the match was overshadowed by the injury to a player who has previously been earmarked as Denmark's 'next big prospect'.
