Daniel Ricciardo's revelation about Red Bull in sad admission about F1 career

Aussie F1 sensation Daniel Ricciardo has revealed he wants to finish his career with Red Bull after admitting he is reinvigorated and wants to race for a 'few more years'. Ricciardo's season took a huge turn when he jumped at the chance to join AlphaTauri for the remainder of the season after taking a break from the sport.

The 34-year-old had suffered an underwhelming 2022 with McLaren and was replaced by fellow Aussie Oscar Piastri. However, he jumped at the chance to join Red Bull's 'second team' when the opportunity arrived last month.

And while he is thrilled to be back racing, Ricciardo said it would be a 'dream' to finish his career back at Red Bull. "Now that I'm back in the Red Bull family it's the only place I want to be and want to stay," he said at the Dutch Grand Prix on Thursday. "However much longer my career is, it's where I want to end my career," he said.

"It feels like it's the perfect way to finish this second part of my career and, of course, the dream is to get back to the big team. But if it's not that, then I made it clear that I want to be here (at AlphaTauri)."

Ricciardo will be looking at the situation at Red Bull very keenly. Sergio Perez, Red Bull's second driver behind Max Verstappen, is out of contract at the end of the season. While Ricciardo may be a long shot to get that second team spot behind the world champion, the Aussie feels like he has a point to prove after two poor years at McLaren.

"There isn't too much pressure. I feel that I have a point to prove. But I'm not carrying too much weight with that," he said.

"I want to be racing for a few more years. Six months ago, that was not my answer... It feels like me 10 years ago, I feel like I do have that young energy again and that motivation.

"I want to get back to the early days and the real kind of roots and the core of why I got into this and the things that motivated me, just kind of strip everything back and get back to the pure enjoyment of the sport and the love of it."

Ricciardo, whose comeback at the earlier Hungarian GP was marked by him outperforming teammate Yuki Tsunoda in qualifying, didn't go to plan after he dropped down the grid. The eight-time grand prix winner has reiterated his unexpected challenge to replace at Red Bull, but he knows his 16th place finish was a harsh reminder of the monumental task ahead of him.

And speaking at the Dutch GP on Thursday, Ricciardo was ready to use his extended break as a catapult for the remainder of the season. "I was certainly looking after my body more than I usually would on a summer break," he said.

"This second chapter of my career I am feeling different about things. I'm in a very good place and taking it seriously." Ricciardo said he felt like he had hit the ground running in Hungary and Belgium but needed to make sure he did not get back into 'old habits'.
