Crystal Palace handed key new triple selection boost for Everton clash
Crystal Palace will welcome back three players when they host Everton on Saturday in a boost to manager Oliver Glasner.
Eberechi Eze, Eddie Nketiah and Ismaila Sarr are all available to face the Toffees at Selhurst Park after missing out on Monday’s 2-0 win at Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round.
Eze was given a 10-day rest to alleviate pain he had been feeling in his foot since December’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat by Arsenal.
Nketiah had last week twisted his ankle in training, while Sarr missed out on facing Doncaster due to illness.
All three have trained this week, though, and are able to be involved on Saturday, when Glasner will consider starting Adam Wharton in the Premier League for the first time since his groin surgery.
“Fortunately, no new issues and all three [Eze, Nketiah and Sarr] are back and available for tomorrow,” Glasner said on Friday.
England midfielder Wharton has endured setbacks in his recovery from groin surgery in the autumn but has now featured in 12th-place Palace’s last two matches, including a start and 62 minutes against Doncaster.
Asked whether Wharton could start in the Premier League against Everton, Glasner replied: “Oh yes, yes. Surprising that he could play 60 minutes, and even then he said ‘I want more’.
“He did well, trained the whole week, [suffered] no reaction on the load. I think he’s ready. Now with the other players back, it may be tough, but [that is] the best situation as a manager. We have him, Will Hughes, Jefferson Lerma in midfield.”
Ben Chilwell made his debut as a second-half substitute against Doncaster, and Glasner will weigh up whether to start the Chelsea loanee or Tyrick Mitchell at left wing-back against Everton.
“I think Ben is ready to start. That doesn’t mean he does start,” Glasner explained.
Cheick Doucoure, Chadi Riad and Joel Ward are all still out for Palace.
